Keeper James D. Roche 1957-59
He is finding great winter fun at the lighthouse!
Thirty six Keepers kept the light at Wood Island between 2008 and 1986 when it was automated.
We were lucky enough this year to find three new keeper families. They are Keeper David Katon's family, Keeper Jack Netherwood's (family 1962-1963) and Keeper James Roche's family (1969-70). We look forward to learning more about the life at Wood Island Lighthouse from these families.

Lighthouse Docents
Fourteen docents are providing tours of the lighthouse this summer.
Some of them gathered in May to prepare for the season.
Our docents include: Carol Bassett, George Bruns, Brad Coupe, Len Euart, Donna Goulding, Tom Goulding, Sue Maccalous, Renee Messier, Kelly Mourmouras, Dave Noon, Sheri Poftak, Shirley Stallings, Aaron Fox, Caryn Firebaugh, and Chris Sorrentino.
We have a lot of fun and make many visitors very happy and excited. If you would like to join in and find out about this great volunteer opportunity, contact sheri@woodislandlighthouse.org
Keeper David Katon's family visits the Lighthouse. All six of Keeper Katon's children were able to make the visit along with their families - including all of his grandchildren!
The Friends of
Wood Island Lighthouse
is a chapter of the
American Lighthouse Foundation.
It was formed in the Spring of 2003 specifically to
preserve and restore the Wood Island Light Station.
