On June 19th, 2010 a group of UNE Trailblazers visited Wood Island Lighthouse in order to help prepare the lighthouse for the summer tour season.

The UNE Trailblazer program is an early orientation program for incoming freshman at the University of New England. The program allows the freshman to meet their fellow class members, provides an early chance to explore the UNE campus, and also includes volunteering for several different community programs. Wood Island Lighthouse is just one of these potential volunteer projects that the students may chose from.

Nine Trailbreakers joined FOWIL veterans for a sunny boat ride out to the island. The students greatly assisted in several projects that were undertaken during the day. These included cleaning the seaweed off the boat ramp, mowing and weed whacking the lawns, washing the windows of the lantern room, and cleaning the interior of the lighthouse.
