"Capture the Coast," a celebration of Wood Island Light's 200 Birthday and Art Auction was held on Sunday July 13th, 2008. The event was held at the Nonatum Resort in Kennebunkport Maine. This art auction featured well-known artist Robert Paine, along with several dozen other artists. The artists each produced an original painting depicting a scene from the southern Maine coast. Those who attended the event spent an enjoyable evening viewing these great pieces of art and enjoying the provied refreshments. The lighthouse ice carving was one of the many focal points of the evening. At the end of the evening, the art auction allowed guests to bid on their favorite paintings. "Capture the Coast" raised several thousand dollars to benefit the mission of the Friends of Wood Island Lighthouse.

Event organizers Sheri Poftak and Caryn Firebaugn were successful in creating this enjoyable event, pulled off with the assistance of a number of enthusiastic FOWIL volunteers.

FOWIL would like to thank the Nonatum Resort for hosting this event.

From lighthouse tours to art events, there are many ways to support the mission of the Friends of Wood Island Lighthouse as an event participant or volunteer.
