Wood Island Lighthouse Tours - July and August 2010
Thank-you to all the individuals and families
who participated in our 2009 tour season. 966 visitors on
72 tours visited Wood Island Lighthouse. We look forward to
seeing you again in 2010.
A tour to Wood
Island Lighthouse is run by the Friends of Wood Island
Lighthouse, an all volunteer, 501(c)(3) nonprofit. The
lighthouse is located off the coast of Biddeford Maine and
tours leave from Vine's Landing in Biddeford Pool. The
guided tour takes about 1 1/2 hours and is subject to
Mother Nature and her weather and sea conditions.
When are
the tours?
The tours are held in July
and August.
Is the
tower open on the tours?
Yes. In the Spring of 2008
the lighthouse tour was reopened to visitors this year,
after the installation of new handrails. Those who wish to
access the tower, must read and follow the Tower Rules.
How do I
get on a tour?
Call the reservation line between 9AM to 5PM,
Tuesday through Friday for tours each week. We only make
reservations for the current week's tour. Calling other
days is by chance. This line is handled entirely by
volunteers.
Do
current FOWIL members get tour priority?
Yes, they may make
reservations a week in advance.
What is
the price of the boat ride and tour?
There is no fixed charge for the boat-ride and
tour. However, donations are encouraged (suggested minimum
$10/person) and gratefully accepted, all donations going to
the cost of running the boat and the ultimate mission of
restoring Wood Island Lighthouse. This is a long term and
costly endeavor that is most worthwhile, as we are
confident you will agree, especially after you experience
Wood Island Lighthouse in person by means of a FOWIL tour.
